Paper Clay and Soft Sculpture Dragons

Although I'm no longer creating these dragon sculptures, I'm displaying them here by popular request, for your entertainment and potential inspiration. (At least, some nice fans of the dragons have let me know that my sculptures inspired them to create their own.)

These dazzling dragon sculptures should be seen "in the flesh" to be fully appreciated. All but the flying dragon are primarily soft sculpture -- sewn, stuffed fabric shapes with a wire armature -- with some of the smaller details sculpted in polymer clay. They have further embellishments such as tiny sparkling beads, sequins and ultra-fine glitter. A quilting technique was used to texture their throats and bellies, and their features were formed mostly by needle-modeling.

The green flying dragon sculpture, which hangs from a wire, is made of paper clay, cloth maché, and papier maché.
